In the spring of 2020, Preßburger Klezmer Band was preparing to celebrate 25 years of its existence not with a “best of” selection, but with an entirely new program. The program was already complete when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, so it could only be performed for audiences later on. The following year, the band decided to record these songs as well, resulting in the album Korene – Roots.
With this release, we return to the diversity present on many of our earlier recordings. The album features both original compositions and traditional folk songs; vocal as well as instrumental pieces; slow and fast tempos; arrangements by band members and guest musicians, as well as tunes taken directly—without modification—from klezmer recordings over 100 years old. Alongside the band’s core lineup, you can also hear multiple singing voices and a guest brass section. The LP was released in a limited, numbered edition.
